Common issues addressed in treatment are traumatic experiences (PTSD), depression, anxiety, gender identity issues, dysfunctional relationships, personality disorders, perpetrators of sexual violence, and perpetrators of domestic violence.


 

Jan Tate is a psychotherapist providing services from her office in downtown Mebane, NC.

Meet the Therapist

Jan Tate is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, sexuality educator, and forensic evaluator working with sexuality and gender issues. She earned a Master of Social Work with a focus on clinical practice, alongside with a Master of Education in Human Sexuality from Widener University.

Her training background is rooted around sexuality and gender issues and the clinical treatment and assessment of these topics. She has provided services in outpatient, inpatient, residential, and partial settings. She was trained by the Joseph J. Peters Institute to conduct forensic evaluations of domestic batterers, juvenile sexual offenders, and adult sexual offenders.

Her areas of expertise are working with adults in the kink, poly, trans, GNC/NB, and LGBTQ communities, along with sexual disorders and general sex therapy.

Her clinical approach is psychodynamic, culturally sensitive, and conducted through a social justice lens. She provides individual, couple’s, and group psychotherapy services for members of the LGBTQIA community. Additionally, she provides court testimony with an area of expertise in sexuality and custody disputes. She focuses on working with adults in the kink, poly, trans, GNC/NB, and LGBTQ communities, along with sexual disorders and general sex therapy.


Tate’s Story

Tate was born in Efland, NC and raised on the land of her family’s farm. She moved to Philadelphia for graduate school and returned to NC in 2017. She decided at the age of 13 to become a therapist for rural people like the community she grew up in. Her private practice in Mebane is her dream made a reality.
